On July 16, 1945, the world's first nuclear device- not yet a weaponized bomb- was tested at the Trinity Site in southern New Mexico. The gadget was an implosion device, the same design as the Fat Man bomb that was detonated August 9 over Nagasaki. This scale model is a replica of the gadget. The wiring you see on the surface leads to the detonators that set off the implosion.
