Chapter House Central Column at Margam Park 1 by Cross Duck
The Chapter House at Margam Park, part of a monastery dissolved in 1537 by King Henry 8th of England, retained its roof supported by this column until 1799. Thomas Mansel Talbot was more interested in his Orangery, Citrus House and park gates than preserving this magnificent mediaeval building.
The Monastery (Abbey) was founded in 1147. By 1251 it had become the richest monastic house in Wales. Several books from the library have survived and are an important source of Welsh history in the middle ages.
Margam Abbey is a tourist attraction, one of the Cistercian monasteries in Margam, United Kingdom. It is located: 487 km from Birmingham, 750 km from London, 790 km from Dublin. Read further
