Eagle with an Attitude by Tim Lumley

A thirteen week old bald eagle late in the afternoon on the day it fledged. She had spent most of the day on or near the ground but about 15 minutes after this image she managed to launch and stayed airborne long enough to make a couple of loops around the canon battery. We expected her to land in a tree but, to our surprise, she must have caught a thermal and soared far above the treetops. We had been following her and her brother for about three months, and that was the last we saw of her. The brother had fledged the previous week, which was the last time we saw him. ~ Fort Donelson National Battlefield, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, Tennessee
